Reason Why A Zinc Table Looks Great Inside Any Room

By Carol Edwards

Industrial contemporary interior design has been in trend for the past two years now. There is good sense to this type of interior especially when one lives in the metropolis. This style is characterized by the usage of industrial materials and surfaces like brick, steel, wood and metal. The urban vibe of this kind of interior is a cross between the efficiency and comfort.

Choosing the right furniture can play a huge part in how an interior is going to look like. A zinc table has become a crowd favorite among DIY enthusiast. They are not limited to being used as table tops but also look great on counters. This is popular because the material can be easily found.

This alloy becomes more beautiful developing into a blue black gray patina. The retro and genuine feel that this effect gives is what a lot of homeowners are after by having this type of metal top. The alloy aesthetically reacts to substances that get in contact with the surface. The full effect does not manifest until about a year or two though.

The versatility of this particular finish make it not only perfect for industrial and contemporary interiors but also for a more traditional country and even eclectic look. The strong, non porous quality of a zinc finish also makes the furniture low maintenance and is fit for busy kitchens and rooms.

Steel and metal elements are usually the main materials used for industrial kitchens. Due to their stainless, non porous and anti bacterial properties they have started to become a staple. People like more low maintenance things now. Stainless steel, bronze, copper and pewter are also popular choices for table tops. It is hard to deny that metals used in furniture is the equivalent of brains and beauty.

Zinc is easy to use for refurbishing old furniture. The process is as easy as cut and pasting like wrapping a book with a plastic cover. The sheet is wrapped around the plywood with construction adhesive. Solder the edges to make sure they stick to each other after wrapping.

Cleaning a zinc surface only needs a little mild soap and water. No harmful chemicals or special cleaners are needed. Wiping it down after usage is all it needs. Make sure not to use any bleach and other chemical abrasives and may cause damage to its surface.

A zinc finish is delicate compared to its other contemporaries. It is soft and can have impressed marks if sharp objects with applied pressure come in contact with its surface. So it is best to use cutting boards when handling a knife. This alloy also has a lower melting point which is at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Make it a point to use hot plates and trivets for pots and pans for the surface not to melt.

Urban interiors have a certain charm using materials like reclaimed wood and the genuine beauty of exposed metal beams and construction materials. Naturally these elements are found in the building or rooms making. The chrome, black, metal and wood combination make zinc a perfect fit in this particular setting. Using zinc is versatile enough for the different aesthetics of modern, contemporary and even traditional interior design.
