By Dorothy Murphy

No sport can be said to be perfectly safe. Once you are engaged in one, there are chances of knocks, falls, and collisions with fellow teammates or opponents. Such accident may end up injuring fragile body parts like the legs, knees, the shoulder and even the face. With this in mind, one must have adequate information about the varieties of sports protective wear for each sport.

Each wear is designed to protect a specific body part. The helmet is an example of these gears which is aimed at preventing or minimizing the effects of head and brain injuries. There are sports such as cycling, motor racing, baseball, boxing and cricketing where a helmet is compulsory. Each helmet is designed to prevent a given amount of force depending on the sport.

In addition to the helmet, there is the mouth guard. This protects basically to protect the components of the mouth including the teeth, tongue, lips gums and jaws from potential injuries. If such occur, there are likelihood of injuries like fractured or broken jaws to happen. The common sports where the mouth guard is necessary to include boxing, rugby, and football.

In rugby and soccer pads and guards are very crucial in injury protection. The pads are basically for the protection of the shoulders, knees, neck, elbow and many other body parts. Depending on the kind of sport that one is involved with and the level of injuries anticipated, guards can be made from either hard plastic or soft padding.

There exists a variety of guards depending on the game they are used in or on the body part they are protecting. The shin guard often worn in football and cricket is worn to protect the shins from being knocked by the ball. The knee pad protects the cartilage and the joint of the knee from potential dangers. Other different kinds of guards are elbow guards, those of the shoulder and many others.

When it comes to protective apparels, there are clothes designed for sports like cycling, football, and baseball with a spongy cushioning on their sides so that it can be able to prevent the effects of frequent falling. The foot wears usually protect the parts of the feet from injuries and make playing much easier. The cycling shoes are good at making the cyclist cycle faster.

Though all sports need one to have a good sight, there are those that need it more. Such sports include surfing, skiing, cycling and several others. Here, the special eyeglasses are needed to shield one from harmful sharp light rays or debris that may get into the eyes causing accidents. Other sports may not be needing glasses have room for special ones that may be used with players having eye complications.

Being aware and having the protection in hand is never enough. It is expected that one takes upon themselves to follow the safety precautions in their relevant sport to ensure that they are safe. More so make sure that you use the right gear for the right sport. The gear should be of your size too . One not your size makes you more exposed to injuries.
